This workshop is targeted at an audience having already a basic understanding of EU Public Affairs and EU policy-making (minimum 2-3 years of experience).

Introduction
The EU and especially the EU Commission takes pride in its evidence-based decision-making. But what does this actually mean? How is this put in practice? To what extent is policy-making actually based on evidence? How does politics fit in?
All these points will be assessed and explained, notably the performance of Impact Assessments as a cornerstone of evidence-based decision-making.
Most importantly, the workshop will provide strategic and operational insights into how one can contribute efficiently as a stakeholder to this process.

Part 1
- How to define evidence-based decision-making? Is it different from science-based decision-making?
- Inception impact assessment, Ex ante and Ex post impact assessment: what do they aim to achieve and when are they performed in the policy cycle
- When is an impact assessment required? Which impact is assessed, by whom and via which process?
- Impact assessment Guidelines & toolbox: the EU Commission service roadmap for proper IAs
- The performance of an IA on delegated/implementing acts
- Consultations in the context of evidence-based decision-making

- Insight on where and how to contribute in this process
- The Socio-economic analysis in legislative & policy discussions and files
- Methodology for developing socio-economic data for impact assessment processes
